Communication and Language.

Requirement: Children’s learning and competence in communicating, speaking and listening, being read to and beginning to read and must writing must be supported and extended.

Early Years Educators will help children to communicate thoughts, ideas and feelings and build-up relationships with adults and others. Children will be given the opportunity to share and enjoy a wide range of fiction and non-fiction publications this includes books providing rhymes, music, songs, poetry and stories.

Children will see adults reading and writing¬† and encouraging children to experiment with writing for themselves through mark making and personal writing symbols. The environment will be rich in signs, symbols, notices, numbers, words, rhymes, books, pictures, music and songs that take into account children’s different interests, understandings, home backgrounds and cultures.

Signs will be displayed in various languages throughout the nursery. The nursery also provides a small library which allows both parents and children to choose a book which can be taken home and read together.
