The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework

Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfil their potential.  A child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances.  A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right, and it provides the foundation for children to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.  When you the parents choose to use early years services such as our nursery you want to know that we will keep your children safe and help them thrive.  The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the framework that provides that assurance.

The four themes of the EYFS underpin the Development Matters guidance: A Unique Child, Positive Relationships, Enabling Relationships and Learning and Development.

The principles of these themes state that every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self – assured, children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships, children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practioners, parents and carers.  Setting the standards for the learning, development and care young children should experience when they are attending our setting is of paramount importance. It is essential to ensure that every child makes progress as children develop and learn in different ways.

There are six areas covered by the early learning goals and educational programmes:
